The first known aspect of this house was its famous monastery, which existed even before the Arabs entered Africa. The author of "Al-Mu'nis" said: "The Arabs used to camp opposite the monastery of 'Tarshish' and find comfort in a monk who used to worship there, to the extent that they would say, 'This place brings solace.'"
